The Growler Visuals difference

A Story Told Through Powerful Visuals

For most of our history, Growler Visuals has been focused on interview-driven storytelling. What does this mean, though? Our style has been derived from traditional broadcast journalism’s approach of quick, one-person reportage combined with a documentary approach that does not rely on a reporter’s voice or a hidden narrator. We let the interviewee drive the story, and we’ve honed this approach for 20+ years.

In fact, Wil Weldon has written a book, INNERVIEWING: Heart-Forward Storytelling, which details this approach and how to start practicing it. Wil slightly tilts conventional journalism on its side by focusing on the interviewee’s experience, so the interview itself is less transactional and one-sided. The result is video storytelling that is much more emotional, authentic, and compelling for the viewer.

Fancy graphics and stunning visuals are always useful to illustrate ideas or historical reflections. Visuals are, after all, what we use to create our stories. But voices make those visuals come alive! Video is an emotional medium. And we let our interviews speak for themselves. We want you to feel the story authentically.
